January 2009 E-Newsletter

Hello again everyone. We here at the Twin City Opera House hope that everyone's Christmases were as wonderful as ours. We celebrated in grand style this year. From movies to variety shows this holiday season had everything at the Opera House and successfully put everyone in the holiday spirit. Congratulations to Dan Keffer, the winner of the 'major award,' a genuine leg lamp just like the one featured in the movie "A Christmas Story." According to my sources, Mr. Keffer and family proudly displayed their new family member in their home for all to see and bask in its glory. Thanks to all of our sponsors for the weekend's events which includes: Shriver's Pharmacy, Citizens National Bank, and McDonalds of McConnelsville, Ginny's Flower Shop, and thanks to all who attended and supported our endeavors.

January 2009 will be packed full of great movies and stage shows. Look further down the page for our complete list of movies. On Saturday January 10, 2009 we will be hosting Jim Forshey and his Elvis Tribute Birthday Show. The doors will open at 6:00 pm and show time will begin at 7:00 pm. On Saturday January 17, the Ohio Valley Opry will make their return to the stage as well. Sadly, the folks at the Ohio Valley Opry have decided to return to their regular schedule of one show per month, so get your tickets early as this show will undoubtedly sell out. On Saturday January 31, the Opera House will host the "Y-City Barbershop Chorus." Show information is further down the page.

"Four Christmases"

PG-13

80 min.

When upscale, happily unmarried San Francisco couple Kate and Brad find themselves socked in by fog on Christmas morning, their exotic vacation plans morph into the family-centric holiday they had, until now, gleefully avoided. As Brad counts the hours to when he can get away from their parents, step-parents, siblings and an assortment of nieces and nephews, Kate is starting to hear the ticking of a different kind of clock. And by the end of the day, she is beginning to wonder if their crazy families' choices are not so crazy after all.

Banished from Mouseworld for being more man than mouse, Despereaux is rescued by another outcast, Roscuro, who also wants to hear the tales. But when the Princess dismisses Roscuro's friendship, he becomes the ultimate rat and plots revenge with fellow outsider Mig. We follow his story, set in New Orleans from the end of World War I in 1918, into the 21st century, following his journey that is as unusual as any man's life can be.

Fundraising

www.goodsearch.com

You can help the Twin City Opera House simply by changing the way you search online. The Opera House will receive $.01 for each legitimate search you make on www.goodsearch.com

Instead of using other search engines such as Google, we encourage you to use www.goodsearch.com, which is powered by Yahoo!  When you visit from your home computer you will need to enter your preferred charity, in this case type in “Opera House (McConnelsville, Ohio)” or Opera House and then hit the “Verify” button. Choose the appropriate charity and begin searching.

If you are an online shopper you can link from goodsearch.com to www.goodshop.com and shop many online stores. A percentage of your online purchases at these stores will also go to your selected charity.

Goodsearch has been profiled on ABC News, Oprah, The New York Times among others as a positive way to give back to your community while not costing you a cent!

Don't forget that our new books are also available for $25.00. The 68 page book chronicles the history of the Twin City Opera House in pictures and words, and includes many old photos taken of various landmarks throughout the county. The book also includes pictures of the glass advertising slides that were shown before the movies several decades ago. The slides appear in full eye-popping color and are of mostly local businesses of Morgan County. Call to get your book today. All proceeds from the book will go to the improvement of the facility.

Ecophones

The Twin City Opera House will be taking part in a recycling fundraiser. Items to be collected will be: cell phones, ink jets, DVD’s, laptops, MP3 players, video game consoles, digital cameras, GPS devices, digital picture frames and portable DVD players. All proceeds from the collection will go directly to Opera House capital improvements and programming for 2008. There will be a special collection bin located in the Opera House lobby through the end of November 2007. Approved items may be donated during normal operating hours or special arrangements may be made to deliver items at other times by calling 740-962-3030. This fundraising opportunity is brought to us by EcoPhones.

Kroger Cares

We are now proud to be a part of another unique fund raising opportunity, the Kroger Cares program. The idea is simple and works like this:

1) Purchase a Kroger Gift Card from the Opera House for $5.00

2) The card will have a balance of $5.00 already on it.

3) Shop at Kroger stores.

4) When you go to the store, go to the cashier and put as much money on your card as you would like (Maximum of $500).

5) Use the card like cash to purchase groceries and gas.

6) The Twin City Opera House will receive 5% of our collective purchases.

The card can be used forever. Whenever your balance gets low, just visit the cashier and put more money on it before you shop. It is very easy and a great way to help the theater by doing something you already do! Just stop in our give us a call to purchase your card and start helping us out. They make a great gift for Christmas or for your college student miles from home.

We hope that this never has to happen as we are in the business of serving all sections of the population.
